Works
These are projects that I have worked on in the past, or are currently still working on.
- Eastern Retrograde Memories (Chiptune Music Album) - Produce/Arrange (as "Blue Mario")
-
Produced the title track "Eastern Retrograde Memories" (with Pegmode). Approximately half the song was finished, although as the album deadline neared Pegmode decided to finish the rest of the song himself. Normally I would be a bit mad but I really love how it turned out, so I can't really complain! The song was originally using a single Gameboy however Pegmode decided to use two instances of the sound hardware.
This song (and its album) were featured in Touhou Garakuta, an official Touhou magazine.
- Mega Man - The Sequel Wars (Rockman Megaworld 2) (MD) - Music Arrange (as part of "Team Sequel Wars")
-
Project is still ongoing.
Produced classic stage themes for Toad Man and Episode Red credits (alongside Teuthida). Additionally provided Pharaoh Man Classic SAGE demo stage theme. Other arrangements are in progress. I wanted to do more songs for Episode Red, unfortunately I was very busy at the time so I could only suggest friends of mine who would be able to cover my place. Additionally, the other existing members of the team had taken all the other songs, so I essentially just worked on the tracks nobody else had gotten to.
- Project SHVTERA (FC) - Slideshow Graphic
-
I had absolutely nothing to do with the project initially. The single programmer working on it had developed a unique piece of code for doing complex bankswitched graphics without use of a complex mapper, and wanted to make a basic slideshow test ROM. At the time, I entertained the thought of this and produced a basic sketch that would get digitized to sort of understand the idea of what this system was capable of, and didn't think about it much further, but I allowed it to be used as a test graphic to further develop the tooling and codebase of the program.
However the developer submitted the ROM to "NESDev Compo" and included this crude and basic drawing conversion without my permission! I seem to remember working with the developer to make a much better graphic to replace it, but I don't know if that was ever released. Concerningly, another artist whose work was featured in the slideshow told me they weren't asked about the inclusion of their artwork either...
- Rockman World 2 Improvement (GB, In Development) - Music Arrange, Sound Effects, Sound Program, Program, Graphics
-
A project that puts the past one to shame! A friend had disassembled the original game and requested that I rearrange the soundtrack using my custom sound driver. Although I felt quite burned out from the last attempt, I still agreed and went ahead with rearranging the songs, to an even higher standard than before, but without sounding "disconnected" from the gameplay happening onscreen. Additionally, a guest track composed by famed fan composer RRThiel is present! His contribution to the hack is really good and I can't wait to see what others think of it.
I also additionally redid all the sound effects from the ground up, trying to port existing sound effects as accurately as possible. However as the game includes its own unique content, as well as to give an extra touch to the presentation, I did completely custom sound effects as well. As very few assets in the original game actually had implemented sound calls, I had to program in new sound calls myself, which was really hard in some cases, but I personally believe the result was absolutely worth it!
I also did a handful of graphics for the project. Although it focused mainly on touching up some of the boss portraits in the game.
This project also remains a demonstration of the capabilities of my own sound driver, which contains features that other available homebrew sound drivers on GB do not.
- Rockman World 2 Music Improvement (V3) (GB) - Music Rearrange, Sound Effects, Sound Program
-
Update: This project is now obsoleted by "Rockman World 2 Improvement" shown above.
Took approximately a full year to produce, as it was not a priority to complete.
While most arrangements focused very hard to be extravagant and flashy, almost to overcompensate for the original soundtrack's arranging job, this often lead to issues where people would constantly disagree on the best way to interpret such a rearrangement, as well as not at all fitting the gameplay or game scenario, but sounded excellent in a chiptuning context. My decision was to instead interpret the original arranging work as-is but in a much more presentable manner that still suits the gameplay and game scenario.
- Quarth GBC (unreleased, GBC) - Music Arrange, Sound Effects, Sound Program
-
This project was probably one of the hardest! The sound driver (which is from Rockman World 2) was the biggest bottleneck, as it was arranging songs that played into the sound driver's weaknesses, and the converter tool for it kept breaking, requiring it to be mostly rewritten by hand using the native bytecode. As such, each arrangement took a full day to produce! Unfortunately, the project was cancelled. However despite this, I'm proud of the work put into making them!
All music was to be arrangements of the MSX2 version of Quarth, however in the end only the Stage 1-1 and 3-1 themes were finished. A partially unfinished arrangement of the main theme exists, too.
- Space Wiz (FC) - Stage Graphics
-
This is a rather old project I am involved with. At the time, I was still very green to doing pixelart for a real Famicom game, but I gave it my best attempt at the time. Unfortunately, my skill was not as good as the others on the team. The project is still being developed as of writing, so perhaps I will go back and redo them eventually.
And many more...
